Steve Johnson , marketing manager of Eaton”s Lighting Division , believes that LED technology is changing the way we design
lighting for stadiums and other sports facilities.
“Stadiums and sports facilities require durable lighting solutions that provide high lumens, minimal glare and comprehensive
control,” he said. “These locations have varying ceiling heights and host a variety of events. They present a unique set of challenges , but LED provides an ideal solution.”
Stadiums can be used for a variety of sports and various other activities, which makes LED lighting an excellent choice for these venues.
LED lighting in gyms and other indoor fitness centers can have a dramatic impact on the experience of those inside. The bright, high
lumen output and minimal glare also provide high clarity for players when shooting or performing other actions.
Lighting maintenance in traditional gymnasiums can be difficult due to high ceiling heights.
“A typical gym has an average ceiling height of about 25 feet (7.62 meters),” Johnson said. “Depending on the classification of the facility,
the required lighting level for a gym can range from 60FC to 125FC.”
That’s why it’s important to reduce lighting fixture replacement or repair. The service life of LEDs typically exceeds 50,000 hours, compared
to the 18,000-hour lifespan of traditional metal halides.
LEDs can also change the atmosphere of your gym. Features such as dimming, sensor control and color adjustment help create the right
environment for a variety of activities, from youth volleyball games to senior aerobics classes.

Group gyms also need to be as flexible as bodybuilders. A versatile group fitness room can be used for a variety of class types, each with
their own lighting needs.
“Gyms can be used for a variety of activities at different times of the day, and most lighting equipment inside is on for 18 hours or more per day,”
Johnson said. “LEDs provide dimming, control and sensing sensors, and the bulbs last longer. ”
