How is the SCXI channel multiplexed when there are other inputs in the DAQ board?
Hardware: SCXI
Question:
How does the DAQ board perform channel scanning when both the multiplexing channel of SCXI and other directly connected inputs are connected to the DAQ board simultaneously?
Answer: Most SCXI modules will reuse their input terminals on the DAQ channel where the module is located. Therefore, when a DAQ board scans channels, it must first go through each channel of each SCXI module before scanning the next DAQ channel. The following example can better illustrate this point: cRIO-9064 NI module
Suppose you have an SCXI 1000 chassis with an SCXI 1102 module connected to channel 0 of the DAQ board. In this module, you have 32 input channels (0 to 31) receiving signals from different signal sources. Also, suppose you have a sine signal connected to channel 1 of the DAQ board.
Once the DAQ board starts scanning channel 0, it will scan each channel of the SCXI module (here from 0 to 31) before starting scanning channel 1, which is the sine wave you input.
However, when the SCXI module operates in parallel mode, each channel on the module will be directly mapped to each channel on the DAQ board (up to the maximum number of channels that the DAQ board can support). Therefore, in the multiplexing mode, you must select the physical channel of the SCXI module, such as SC1Mode1/ai0. The scanning sequence is the same as that of the DAQ board channel scanning. Check the link below to obtain information on the SCXI module that can work in parallel mode.
Unable to communicate with my serial instrument
Main software: LabVIEW Development Systems>>Full Development System
Main software version: N/A
Main software revision version: N/A
Secondary software: LabVIEW Development Systems
Hardware: Serial
Problem: I am communicating with my serial instrument. When the HyperTerminal input command, the device correctly responded. But when I input the same command in LabVIEW, I get an incorrect response or timeout. Why can my device be used in HyperTerminal but not in LabVIEW? Even if I use the example of “LabVIEW<->Serial”, it won”t work.
Answer: Your device may be waiting for the carriage return byte at the end of the instruction. This byte appears in the “” Codes Display in the form of ” r”. You can right-click on the string and select “” Codes Display. In HyperTerminal, the carriage return byte is sent by pressing the enter key. In LabVIEW, line breaks are represented by  n, but when communicating with the device, you should add  r to send out the carriage return byte.
When using NI 6601 or 6602 for digital IO collection, counters with numbers 2 and higher cannot function properly.
Hardware: Counter/Timers (TIO)>>Devices>>PCI-6602, Counter/Timers (TIO)>>Devices>>PXI-6602, Counter/Timers (TIO)>>Devices>>PXI-6608, Counter/Timers (TIO)>>Devices>>PCI-6601
Question:
Use both counters and digital IO on the 660x series board. Counter 0 and counter 1 can function normally, but counter 2 and higher numbered counters cannot function properly. Why is this? How to improve?
Answer:
Using NI660x devices, counters 2 and above share line resources with 32-bit digital IO ports (refer to KB connection Knowledgebase 1I1DALL). No matter which line you are using, as soon as you start a digital task, all digital ports will be redefined. If a digital task starts after the counter output task starts, it will prevent the shared line from generating pulses.
To avoid this phenomenon, you can start the digital input or output task before starting the counter task (refer to KBDeveloper Zone Example). In this way, as long as two tasks do not start using line resources at the same time, it can ensure the normal operation of the task. For more information on setting up a 660x digital line, you can refer to KB Connection KnowledgeBase 1LK9SPX4.
