Woodward’s fast turbulent igniter provides fast and consistent ignition of gas fuel mixtures in internal combustion engines. It provides more uniform and complete fuel combustion, improves engine efficiency and improves exhaust emissions. Features and functions
Large engines operating in lean gas fuel mixtures often experience slower fuel combustion rates and incomplete combustion. These situations reduce combustion efficiency and cause exhaust emissions issues. A typical J-gap spark plug attempts to solve these performance problems by increasing spark energy, which shortens the lifespan of the plug. In order to cope with the decline in spark plug life, J-GAP manufacturers often increase the electrode area, which produces a “quenching” effect on the ignition spark and increases the variability of combustion; Alternatively, they use precious metals, which increases manufacturing complexity and reduces the durability of the plug.
